Equipment

  • 1 Large Soup Pot For cooking everything together
  • 1 Cutting Board To chop the vegetables
  • 1 Sharp knife For cutting the cabbage and onion
  • 1 Wooden spoon For stirring the soup

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound Ground Beef Lean meat is best
  • 1 whole Yellow Onion Chopped small
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 head Green Cabbage Chopped into small pieces
  • 4 cups Beef Broth Adds rich flavor
  • 15 ounces Diced Tomatoes One standard can with the juice
  • 15 ounces Tomato Sauce One standard can
  • 1/2 cup White Rice Uncooked
  • 1 tsp Salt To taste
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper To taste

Instructions
 

  • Put your large soup pot on the stove over medium heat.
  • Add the ground beef and chopped onion to the pot.
  • Cook until the meat is brown and the onions are soft.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for one more minute.
  • Add the chopped cabbage, beef broth, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce to the pot.
  • Pour in the uncooked white rice, salt, and black pepper.
  • Stir everything together very well and let the soup come to a gentle boil.
  • Turn the heat down to low and put a lid on the pot.
  • Let the soup simmer for 30 minutes until the rice and cabbage are soft.
  • Serve warm in large bowls and enjoy.
