In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, dry onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, eggs, water, and 1/4 cup of the ketchup. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix.
Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a 9x5 inch loaf pan or on a foil-lined baking sheet.
Spread the remaining 1/4 cup of ketchup evenly over the top of the loaf.
Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
